WE: the ex-Warner Estate in Waltham Forest
Call-out for volunteers for local heritage project

Rendezvous Projects CIC have gained funding from the Heritage Lottery Fund for a new stage of the project WE: the ex-Warner Estate in Waltham Forest. This stage involves training volunteers to engage with various aspects of the Warner Estate including recording oral history interviews and helping to develop a mobile phone walking tour app. We are now advertising for volunteers who would be interested in the following aspects of the project, taking place from July to December 2016. We’re hoping this will be a valuable experience and volunteers will gain useful experience and training.

To register your interest please fill in the application form here.

To ask questions please email info@exwarnerproject.co.uk.

Volunteers are welcome to take part in one or more of the following:

Oral History interviews

**We have now completed the training for Oral History interviews and will not be repeating this, so we are now only looking for volunteers who have undertaken similar training elsewhere. We still need people to transcribe interviews. **

Transcribing oral history interviews

We have a backlog of interviews that need transcibing and summarising. Instruction will be given and an MP3 file sent to you. You will need to have access to a computer, good written English and relatively fast typing speed.

Expected time per month: between 4 and 10 hours.

Photography

We want to record the Warner streets in 2016 for inclusion in an archive to be held at Vestry House Museum, and are looking for volunteers to help us do this. Training will be provided by a local photographer.

Expected time per month: between 2 and 5 hours.

Required skills and experience: An interest in photography and your own digital SLR camera would be advantages, and a willingness and ability to travel around Waltham Forest.

Archive research

We’re looking for volunteers to assist with archive research, predominantly at Vestry House Museum but also at other venues, to collate information and images and to add to an index of available resources. Training will be provided.

Expected time per month: between 2 and 5 hours.

Required skills and experience: Some experience and knowledge of local history, good written English, computer literate.

Testing app development

We are developing a mobile phone app walking tour towards the end of the project and are looking for a small group of volunteers to help make it a user-friendly experience. This will involve giving feedback on the wording of the tour and testing out early versions of the app itself.

Expected time per month: between 4 and 10 hours in Autumn 2016.

Required skills and experience: experience of walking tours, smartphones and mobile phone apps an advantage. Good knowledge of the geography of Waltham Forest.

Helping at community events

We’ll be holding drop in reminiscence sessions for Warner residents, some of which will involve tea and cake! We may need a helping hand with some of these.

Expected time per month: variable.

Required skills and experience: Friendly demeanour, willingness and ability to travel around Waltham Forest, fondness for tea and cake.

Delivering flyers and general help

We often need help with delivering flyers and with general tasks, for instance picking up and delivering people’s photographs.

Expected time per month: variable but usually 2-5 hours.

No skills required but a willingness and ability to travel around Waltham Forest is necessary.
